Newport Mill Street railway station was one of three stations in central Newport, Wales. A part of Monmouthshire at the time, it was opened on 9 March 1853 as the terminus of Monmouthshire eastern valleys line to Blaenavon. The line itself had opened on 31 July 1852 with a temporary terminus at Barrack Hill.
By May 1855 the Eastern Valley line was connected to the Western Valley line at Dock Street station, although Mill Street station continued to act as a terminus.
By 1878 a connection was made from Llantarnam Junction on the Pontypool, Caerleon and Newport Railway line to Cwmbran Junction on the Eastern Valley line. By 1880 all Eastern Valley trains were diverted, via Caerleon, to High Street station, the present day Newport railway station.
The station closed to all traffic on 28 November 1966.
